A Conversation with Mila De Biaggi

During the last four years Mila De Biaggi has taken the musical theatre scene by storm with her dazzling performances. From Penny in Dirty Dancing, to Victoria: the white cat in Cats, Singing in the Rain, Sunset Boulevard and now Mrs. Potipher in Pieter Toerien’s Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat currently playing at Theatre on The Bay in Cape Town. There’s a new neighbour in town! Clybourne Park which opened at The Fugard Theatre on August 16th has been making waves in Cape Town. Billed as Bruce Norris’ acclaimed black (and white) comedy, Clybourne Park tells a complex story of race relations in America. What makes the story so unique is that act 1 and 2 take place 50 years apart from one another requiring the same group of actors to portray entirely different characters in the second act. Welcome to Sarafina Magazine: an online publication celebrating South African women in the arts.

I was inspired to start this blog after stumbling upon The Interval, a New York based publication that celebrates women in the theater community. South Africa is known as the rainbow nation. It is a country that is rich in culture and full of stories.
