A Conversation with Karen Meiring

Karen Meiring is the Director of M-Net kykNET channels, a position she’s held since 2013. She joined M-Net in 2009 as the head of Afrikaans channels and brought an extensive knowledge of the South African entertainment industry to her position. She has cemented kykNET as the leading producer of Afrikaans film and television content and ushered in successful projects under kykNET such as the Fiëstas, Ghoemas and the Silwerskerm Film Festival. She has also been honoured with numerous awards for her contribution to the arts and entertainment landscape in South Africa. Karen also founded the first ever Afrikaans Arts festival, the KKNK, and was later appointed as the CEO of the festival. She is also one of the founding memebers of Cutt Glas, an internationally renowned Afrikaans a cappella band. We sat down to chat with her during this year’s Silwerskerm Film Festival. A Conversation with Chuma Sopotela

Chuma Sopotela is a multi-award-winning actor, director, choreographer and performance artist. She has recently been named as the 2018 Standard Bank Young Artist for Performance Art. Her stage credits include Karoo Moose for which she received the 2007 Fleur du Cap Theatre Award for Best Actress, Waiting for the Barbarians, U nyamo alunampumlo and Mamela Nyamza’s Rock to the Core. We sat down with her to discuss her career, being named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Performance Art and her upcoming production for the National Arts Festival, Indlulamthi.

Actors Emma Kotze and Sarah Potter are joining forces to star in Wynne Bredenkamp’s return engagement of The Edge of The Light, which will run during The Cape Town Fringe Festival. Both rising stars in their own regard, Emma and Sarah have forged a unique path for themselves as performers. Emma was last seen onstage in Louis Viljoen’s Oh Baby, I’m a Wild One while Sarah captivated audiences in Philip Rademeyer’s The Graveyard and reprises her role as “Girl” in The Edge of The Light.

A Conversation with Frankie Murrey

Frankie Murrey worked in the book trade for a number of years before becoming the Festival Coordinator of Open Book Festival, which runs from September 6th until the 10th right in the heart of Cape Town. In addition to working on the core festival programme, she works closely with others on CocreatePoetica, Comics Fest and the Youth Fest. A Conversation with Tinarie van Wyk Loots

Stage and screen actress Tinarie van Wyk Loots is currently performing in Hemelruim at The Fugard Theatre, a role that has already awarded her Best Actress at The Aardklop National Arts Festival, the KKNK and at the kykNET Fiëstas 2016. In this year alone, Tinarie has already appeared on stage in five major productions. Awards and production credits aside, Tinarie radiates passion for the work that she does.
